Mar 16, 2019 This one is the easiest way to read colt serial numbers, and all the credits go to the advanced technology. Just head over to the “Colt” homepage and click on the “Customer Service”. Right after clicking, you will see an option appearing as “Serial Number Lookup”. Click it, and enter your serial numbers. Wait for it, and Bingo! Colt introduced this model in 1970 as a newer version of the Model 1911A1. The major changes were a slightly heavier slide and a slotted collet barrel bushing. From 1970 to 1976 the serial numbers had a prefix of '70G', from 1976 to 1980 they had a suffix of 'G70' which changed to a prefix of '70B' from 1980 until 1983 when production ceased. Enter the serial number, without spaces or dashes, to search the database. If multiple models appear for your serial number simply match the date with the appropriate model, as certain vintage firearms can share serial numbers between different models.

Double asterisk (**) under Bushmaster, a person on the internet e-mailed me that he had a lower that was shipped stripped (thus not a complete rifle) in 1991 from Bushmaster with serial #0327XX - ALWAYS CALL TO VERIFY. Finally, BATF has allowed some pre-ban damaged to be replaced with post-ban lowers with numbers outside the ranges given below while retaining the grandfathered status. National Match Serial Numbers I joined up so that I could educate myself on Colt's specifically 1911's as I am looking to get my first. That said, I have a question regarding the Series 70 National Match pistols. The serial number page, which only goes up to 1977, would make sense for my year and number. However, I've seen other sites that had the wrong information about the year and serial number, which would have had my gun made earler then Colt said. Give Colt a call, the 1-800 number is free.
